I do. I see them a lot when I’m driving to work in the mornings. I don’t drive on the interstate, as you’ve probably guessed. The back roads are much quicker (takes about 15 minutes off the drive), less traffic & more scenic. Besides turtles, I also see buffalo, cows, horses, goats, chickens, and of course, cats & dogs.
For years, when I saw a turtle crossing the road, it would rain later that day. I began to wonder if these road crossing turtles were a sort of weather predictors. In fact, after we began to put the road crossing together with occurrences of rain, it was not uncommon to hear someone in my family say, “Saw a turtle crossing the road.. it’s gonna rain.”
Today, I saw a turtle crossing the road as I was driving to work. No rain is in the forecast until the end of the week (when I’m going to be moving, JOY!). It looks like my childhood belief that turtles crossing the road bring rain might be shot down today.
I’m secretly hoping for rain so that this fun theory/belief of mine holds true.
