Shantaram

I’ve recently begun reading Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts.
From the first sentence, I have been entranced. I tend to get lost in it and am amazed to find that lots of time has passed by the time I notice.

Look here to read the reviews listed at amazon.com.

When I learned that Johnny Depp’s production company, Infinitum Nihil, had purchased the rights to Shantaram and that Johnny Depp will star as the Australian adventurer, Lin, I immediately put the book on my reading list.

Now that I have begun reading it, I can understand why J. Depp wanted to purchase the film rights after reading the book, as well as why he would want to play the role of Lin.

The author is an amazing character. His writing is compelling. I’m currently at page 250 (of 933 pages) and I must say that if the rest of the book is as page-turning, thrilling and nearly addictive as the first quarter of the book has been, I will be sad when I complete the book.

With the stress of life that we all tend to have at one time or another, it’s been nice to have a different world available, so vividly described that I feel I have escaped for a mini vacation when I resurface from these well-written pages.
