She’s Laughing

On the forum that I help moderate, I recently changed my name. Here is what I posted in regard to the name change.

During my first year at this forum, I chose the name Titanium - because of something I’d said once to my mom: If that which doesn’t kill me makes me strong, I’ll be Titanium Woman in no time.

At that point, I was going through a rough patch with XH & SW. My life was in constant turmoil because I’d not learned how to deal with them.

Now, I’m ready for a change. I’ve decided to use the name Jade because of the jade bracelet (looks like this) Mom brought back from Beijing this past summer.

Many people in China will wear a jade bracelet because they believe it will protect them. Many parents in China will give their son or daughter a jade bracelet to remind this young person of the parents’ love and protection. (see the 4th paragraph of the section called “history,” on this page)

That’s what is important to me right now. Family, friends, living a good life, helping others. Not being strong all the time, keeping my defenses up & learning to control myself.

So - a new name for the same old me.

One of the members posted a link to another website that had meanings of gemstones. Here’s what the site had to say about jade:

“Today, too, this gem is regarded as a symbol of the good, the beautiful and the precious. It embodies the Confucian virtues of wisdom, justice, compassion, modesty and courage, yet it also symbolises the female-erotic.”
