endo. visit

J’s visit with the endocrinologist on Wednesday morning did not bring good news. Her A1C was horrible. I am not exaggerating. It was higher than the machine could calibrate. Greater than 14. Fun, huh?
For quite a while now, I have felt that I was […]

In hail

Fun weather we’re having today. Sirens going off. Golf ball sized hail pounding down in the yard. Tornado warnings. Insulin is in it’s drawer in the fridge ready to be packed and J’s pump supplies are in a bag. Our sneakers and socks are by the door, so we’ll know where to find them.
Sometimes I […]

The praying parents

of the 11 year old little girl in Wisconsin who died on Easter morning of DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) were charged with second degree negligent homicide.
They could each receive a sentence of 25 years.

Pizza

We had pizza last night for dinner. A normal thing, right?
Not at our house.
Eleven year old daughter, who has type I diabetes, checked her blood sugar before dinner, we figured out how many carbohydrates the pizza had, and she did her insulin boluses for the food. We had decided ahead of time to […]

The 30 Day Diabetes Miracle

I recently heard an interview with one of the authors of the The 30 day Diabetes Miracle on the Diabetes Powershow podcast and picked up the book today on my way home from work. So far (I’m on page 60), it’s well written and filled with loads of information. I think my […]

senseless tragedy

This news article about the 11 year old girl in Wisconsin who died of diabetic ketoacidosis is so very sad. While her parents sat by and prayed for her, she suffered needlessly as her body shut down.
When my youngest child was diagnosed with type I diabetes at age 10 (she is now 11) in […]

one year already!

Youngest daughter has been using her insulin pump since March 15, 2007.  It’s really made life easier than it could have been.
I’m thankful that we live in this century with all the medical advances that have been made and are being made (see article from ScienceDaily below).

cure for type I diabetes on the horizon?

Look at this!
Scientists at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) have initiated a phase 1 clinical trial to reverse type 1 diabetes. The trial is exploring whether the promising results from the laboratory of Denise Faustman, MD, PhD, can be applied in human diabetes. Faustman’s previous studies have shown that mice with a form of […]
