one year already!

Youngest daughter has been using her insulin pump since March 15, 2007.  It’s really made life easier than it could have been.
I’m thankful that we live in this century with all the medical advances that have been made and are being made (see article from ScienceDaily below).

cure for type I diabetes on the horizon?

Look at this!
Scientists at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) have initiated a phase 1 clinical trial to reverse type 1 diabetes. The trial is exploring whether the promising results from the laboratory of Denise Faustman, MD, PhD, can be applied in human diabetes. Faustman’s previous studies have shown that mice with a form of […]

my new buddy

visit with the endocrinologist

Youngest daughter’s appointment was today. She’s 5′4″ now, the same height as my mom and two inches shorter than me.
Her A1C was not so good this time. The A1C is a number obtained from a blood test that shows what the average blood sugar level has been for the past 2-3 months. […]

Have you ever heard of anyone doing something like this? Now I’m worried […]

Last week, I had a hangnail that hurt a lot. I had read somewhere about soaking a small cut in hydrogen peroxide to prevent infection, pain, etc., so I tried it. I soaked that fingertip (left ring finger) in hydrogen peroxide for quite a while. I used a shot glass that oldest […]

one, two, three…

four, five, SIX!  Count them –  SIX pounds lost.  From me.  Yes, me.  I’m carting around six less pounds today than I was last Tuesday.  Yippee!!
I’m now one pound above where I was when I started Weight Watchers.  I gained 7 pounds in the 6 weeks after Megan died.
I’m glad to be losing instead of […]

less red eye, part 3

I woke this morning with a much less red eye. YIPPEE!
Here’s a photo I took about 5 minutes ago. In my kitchen. With the overhead light shining in my eyes. Obviously, it’s not a great photo, but you get the idea. Less red, a little puffy, and still quite green. […]

red eye, part 2

When I woke up this morning, my eye was still red. I called one of the doctors I work for and went in to his office at 11am. After staining my eye and peering at it with a black light, he said there’s no scratch on it. He then said it must […]
